On Nov. 6, 2007, residents in the southeast corner of the Salt Lake Valley made history by voting to create a new school district for the first time in Utah in nearly 100 years — and Canyons District has been making history ever since. Canyons District began independent operations on July 1, 2009.  In addition to receiving awards for budget excellence in 2010, 2011,  2012 and 2013, the District successfully campaigned for a $250 million bond to build and renovate schools.  As a result of their sterling financial track record, Canyons District has received the highest possible bond rating from Moody’s Investors Service.  


Granite School District, located in the Salt Lake Valley, operates 63 elementary schools, 16 junior high schools, 8 high schools, as well as other special schools and programs. With more than 67,000 students, Granite is the third largest district in Utah and is among the largest public school districts in the nation. Granite is also one of Utah’s largest employers, with more than 7,500 full and part-time employees. The district boundary encompasses 257 square miles.

The Salt Lake City School District serves the children and community of Utah’s capital city. The boundaries for the district are contiguous with the boundaries of Salt Lake City.  The district serves approximately 24,000 students and has great diversity with over 80 languages being spoken in the schools.


Jordan School District is home to four different types of schools.  Our elementary schools educate children from Kindergarten through 6th grade and operate on traditional or year-round calendars. Middle schools provide classes for grades 7-9, with a 4-quarter, 7-period schedule.  High and technical schools are focused on grades 10-12 with a 4-quarter, 8-period AB block schedule.  Special schools serve on students with varying special needs.
